Seeking the guidance of the gracious Lord

Thursday, Dec 21, 2006

This morning, the doctor said that the situation of Rev. Li’s liver was not good. He said that the western medicine could not do anything about it. He suggested us to seek help from Chinese medicine (there is a Chinese medicine department affiliated to Tung Wah hospital). We don’t know what to do now. We are praying for God’s guidance. We also ask the brothers and sisters to pray for us asking God to open a way for us.

Tonight, we received a call which was consistent with our thinking. Perhaps it was the confirmation from God. We decided not to try the Chinese medicine to avoid increasing the burden of the liver at this moment. A nurse told us that the index of Rev. Li’s liver was already way too high; many people would have been unconscious already. Therefore, God is still taking care of Rev. Li. Thank God. Rev. Li’s ammonia had returned to normal with one day. God listened to our prayer. Even though Rev Li is feeling tired now, his mind is still very clear. May God’s Spirit be with him, protecting and encouraging him.

Cry out for the salvation of the gracious Lord

Wednesday, Dec 20, 2006

This afternoon, Rev. Li will be transferred to Tung Wah Hospital for recuperation. He said that he had serious de-toxication process going. He had to use the toilet almost once every one and a half hours. He felt tired. However, the function of the liver was better. Brothers and sisters, please keep praying for him.

When Rev. Li was in a critical situation one or two days earlier, I asked him twice whether we should inform his family. He either didn't want his family to worry about him, or he was full of faith, he said that it was not necessary to call his family to see him. Tonight, his mother and little brother and sister-in-law visited him. I felt relieved because they read the blog of Rev. Li. Thank God. Now he was transferred to this “self-service” hospital, due to the lack of manpower, we have to take care of more things. The situation of Rev. Li is much better now. But his face and eyes are still yellowish. His spirit is improved. Brothers and sisters, please do not come to the hospital to visit him so that he can have more rest. Thanks so much for your prayers.

The Heavenly Father who loves me

Tuesday, Dec 19, 2006

Today, Rev. Li slept much in the hospital. The doctor said that there was a lot of poison accumulated in his body. He gave him some medicine to help the detoxication process. I believed that he referred the toxic substance to the medicine to cure the liver tumor. Rev. Li asked me not to think too much whether the decision of taking this medicine was right or wrong. We should not accept the accusation of Satan, otherwise we would be deceived. Knowing Rev. Li’s situation is very critical right now, we are very anxious. However, his spirit is still very strong and he is full of hope. He said that he would accept God’s will if He wanted him to return to heaven. However, we would not give up until the very last moment.

The oldest daughter and I spent almost half of the day at the hospital. We spent some time with Rev. Li. Then we went to the canteen for an hour to let Rev. Li rest. Then we returned to see him. We kept going back and forth like this for several times. I really appreciated that a sister came to stay with me, and prepared food for Rev. Li. Her loving care really impressed me.

In the afternoon, our daughter spent sometime with her dad. They shared with each other in spirit. Rev. Li cried for he loved his daughter so much. However, our daughter seldom had chance to share with her dad in depth in the past two months. At that moment, all the gaps or suppressed feelings were swept away by tears. Thank God.

In the past, Rev. Li usually cried for the salvation of the Chinese people. But in the past two months, Rev. Li had not cried. However, when he talked about the unity of the Church and the glory of God, he cried for the first time. The second and the third time when he cried, he cried for the daughter. We believe that the heavenly Father loves us in such way too.

“See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.” (Mal 4:5-6)

Hope with joy and peace

Monday, Dec 18, 2006

We met with the doctor in this afternoon. He explained that because of the oral medication, the function of Rev. Li’s liver was deteriorating. The liver index rose to 1000 points. Now he has to stop taking this medicine. Rev. Li has to take rest and he is under medical observation. Hopefully, his liver index will drop in these two weeks. Brothers and sisters, please cry out to God for His healing on Rev. Li. In this critical moment, we have to dedicate our prayers, and let Rev. Li to have more rest. I would like to ask brothers and sisters not to visit him now. For those who really need to see him, please wear masks and clean their hands before they see him. Rev. Li has the habit to hug and shake hands with the visitors. Thank you for your love and consideration.

Witnessing God’s amazing grace together

Saturday, Dec 17, 2006
Today, several pastors came to our home to visit Rev. Li, and prayed for him. Some of them received the same vision-Satan saw the revival of Hong Kong was on the way. He used streams of tricks to attack the leaders of the churches. Therefore, the pastorate circle in Hong Kong had to be united. They all said that they would fight alongside with Rev. Li, just like Aaron and Hur holding Moses’ hands to pray in one accord. The ministry of Rev. Li is inter-denominational and he has been devoting himself in seeking unity. Now Rev. Li is having cancer. We have to pray and stay alert. Those pastors were confident that the healing of God would come upon Rev. Li. God will use Rev. Li to foster the unity among the churches in Hong Kong so that God will be glorified.

These pastors did not join the praying meeting for Rev. Li held by the New Arrival Ministries on Thursday. However, we were touched by the same Spirit. God used different people to confirm His will. That reminded me that God showed me a picture in August. Jesus was sitting on the throne. At the foot of the throne, there was an endless wall which kept moving. God gave me a message of tearing down the walls between churches. Churches have to be united (for we are the same body of Christ). He also wanted to tear down the walls between the members of families; families have to be reconciled. I did not quite understand what God was doing at that moment. I just briefly mentioned this when I gave testimony at the church. However, when I was worshipping today, I saw this vision again.

Today, I really sensed the presence of God. Rev. Li was in a good mood. When we were worshipping, one of the pastors shared Ex 33(Moses pleaded for the glory and the presence of God). This was the same message that Rev. Li shared in his blog and the praying meeting. Another pastor shared with Rev. Li the vision of Elijah seeing the little cloud in the sky. Seeing this cloud, Elijah ran and bypassed the chariot of Ahab. Rev. Li shared this message in his blog on the previous Sunday. These two pastors did not know Rev. Li well, and they had never read his blog. God is really amazing!

Put on armor of God

Tuesday, 12th December, 2006

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. (Revelation 12:11)

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (Ephesians 6:10-13)

This is a spiritual war, not only for Pastor Li, but concerning Mission of New Arrivals!
This is a spiritual war, not only for Mission of New Arrivals, but concerning the Kingdom of God!

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:24)

We have to firmly believe that cancer does not come from God. Suffering is not from God!
In the battlefield, with God's strength, we overcome all illnesses and lies from our enemies!
Everyone needs to receive a miracle some time in his or her lives. Let us pray for miracles in Hong Kong, not only in Africa!

Blessing of God's presence

10th December, 2006 (Sunday)

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way." When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. (Exodus 33:1-4)

Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."(Exodus 33:15-17)

A few days ago, I was watching sermon on the Internet, Pastor Damian was giving a sermon about these scriptures and I was touched immediately. I kept thinking about it and read the scriptures over and over. I asked God what message did the scriptures give me. The Holy Spirit let me got two important messages, not only for me, but to all the churches in Hong Kong.

1. Moses gets the heart of God
God told Moses to lead the Israelite to Canaan. Angels would be sent to pave the way for them and Canaanites would be driven out. Then the Israelites could enter the land flowing with milk and honey. However, God was not going with the Israelites because they were stubborn. It was afraid that God might eliminate them on the way. But Moses clearly knew his goal of serving. If God was not present and there was only blessing from the angels, the whole thing would be a success superficially. If God is not present and it lacks God's glory, what is the meaning of success?

During this period, I think a lot about the works I do for God. Are they only blessing from angels without God's presence? Sometimes, we think that there are some achievements with our service and we take it as God's blessing. We chase after achievement and it becomes our idols. Moses reminded us that we should not be satisfied with achieving our goals but opt for God’s presence with us.

On the other hand, it is not God’s heart for choosing not to go with the Israelites. They were not only stubborn, but were sinful people. God is against evil and He cannot stand the sin among the people. We should always ask, are we receiving blessings from angels or blessing with God's presence? If we only receive blessings from the angels, we should find out whether we have any hidden sin. If it is the case, we must repent and look for God's face.

2. Prayer can change God's will
God's mind is firm and it is not easy to change His words. However, in verse 17, Moses begged God. If God was not going with them, Moses asked God not to send him into Canaan. Finally, Moses successfully changed God’s mind and God even said, ‘I know you by name.’ The Israelites were told to be separated from other people in the world. Thus, God went with Moses and showed His glory in front of Moses.

The goal of churches and Christians is to glorify God. The way to glory God is to be present with God and walk with Him. In this way, our family life and services are not the same anymore. Though the church and family members may not be all holy, with the presence of God, your prayers can change the adverse environment. Moses was leading a group of stubborn people. With his sincere prayers, the whole situation was changed.

I am very ill at the moment, but I walk with God everyday and pray for His guidance. Dear co-workers, brothers and sisters, let’s invite God to walk with us everyday. Our own plans and calculations can never catch up with God’s guidance. May all churches get inspiration from Moses and start to revise our goal of service. We should look for blessing of God’s presence. Let God’s glory be with us. Let God be the King among us.

Glory of Christ body

9th December, 2006 (Saturday)

25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
(1 Corinthians 12:25-27)

Unity Servant Team (合一僕人團隊) came to our home to pray for us this morning. We had communion together. They shared the message obtained from God and prayed for Pastor Li. These pastors are leaders of Hong Kong churches and they are very busy people. Today, they gathered together with a heart to walk with us. We are one body in Christ. When one part suffers, other parts suffer together. We believe God wants to speak to each of us through the illness of Pastor Li. We need to introspect our heart and strategy when serving God, so that we can understand God more. When we walk together, Satan has to retreat!
In the afternoon, some sisters came to the podium of our home to pray for me. I can receive mercy from God in this difficult time. I have strength to walk, take care of my family and work. God let me enjoy His peace. I truly appreciate their love and concern. We feel support in our suffering. We look up to God’s presence each day and not to worry about tomorrow.

Battle of South Asia mission

7th December, 2006 (Thursday)

2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. 3 Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.
(Psalm 123:2-3)

Today, I was told that another co-worker (an Indian Pastor) of South Asia Mission to New Arrivals is getting ill and is receiving operation. He has to stop working like Pastor Li. I was upset after reading the news and prayed for him. Satan uses different tricks to attack servants of God in order to stop gospel from spreading. That is why a co-worker fasts for 40 nights to fight against Satan. In Hong Kong, the work of South Asia Mission is difficult and it stays at the beginning stage. We are grateful that God has His mind set and they will have a chance of receiving gospel. Now the gospel work with South Asia people is on track. We have to pray harder and let God’ s glory land in Hong Kong to turn different races to God.

The co-workers of Mission to New Arrivals has arranged a prayer gathering for Pastor Li. We want to lift up prayer of harp and censer, longing for God’s mercy. May God be glorified.

Food and water from Johovah

5th December, 2006 (Tuesday)

"Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you."
(Exodus 23:25)

Many brothers and sisters care about the situation of Pastor Li since he was admitted to the hospital last week. Some pray for him cordially, some fast and pray, some concern about our financial situation. We are so touched by all these. We are grateful for the love from our brothers and sisters.
The grace of God is so rich, especially when we are weak. It reveals His completeness and power. Earlier on, Pastor Li vomited all the time, could not eat and losing his appetite. His weight drops, feeling weak and the liver function is deteriorating. Thank God for his immediate assistance and God has listened to your prayers. Since Pastor Li returned home, his ascites is getting better and his appetite is improving. Though he still vomits occasionally, he has overcome the feeling. With faith and determination, he tries to eat after vomiting. It succeeds and we will encourage him, ‘Well done!’ Now, Pastor Li is changing from vegetarian diet to semi-vegetarian diet. He is taking small amount of egg-white, fish and nutrient milk, with a hope of weight gaining.
Earlier on, the doctor suggested a pill which can suppress the growth of blood vessel of cancer cells and wither them. This pill is very expensive. Upon consideration, we believe God will provide our need. We told the doctor to purchase it. We have to make an overseas order. The pill has arrived in Hong Kong today and Pastor Li can start to take the pill by tomorrow. We hope God will use the pill to suppress the tumour efficiently.

Prayer request :
1. Please pray for the pill taken by Pastor Li. May God use the pill and result in efficient treatment.
2. Please pray for the body strength of Pastor Li and pray God will take care of his liver function.
3. Please pray for a joyful heart of Pastor Li, so that he can endure the loneliness during the day.

Joy in suffering

3rd December, 2006

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
(James 1:2-3)

Be joyful with suffering? It seems to be a very high standard. However, as a Christian, we believe God’s mercy is enough for us and we should not fear any test in life. During suffering, we tend to focus on the pain and it is a natural reaction. However, if we concentrate too much on the pain, the negative feeling will always stay with us. The best thing to do is to divert our attention, do something we enjoy. The feeling of pain will decrease gradually. This is part of my experience. I would like to share some view points during my illness.

1. Cope with suffering
Tears always go with suffering, so that we can grow through it. For patients suffering from liver cancer, the abdomen would swell up due to liver malfunction. In addition, the ascites would raise the stomach. We feel distend when we eat and drink. Backflow of gastric juice makes us vomit all the time. Since the skin and muscle is stretching, we would suffer from back pain. I vomit when taking in food. My wife always encourages me to finish the food slowly. When I am suffering, I would meditate Jesus’s suffering. He was in Golgotha, facing the torture of the cross. My suffering is light and short comparatively.

2.Share with other patients
A few days ago, I went to the hospital for extracting ascites. It was easy to talk to other patients in the hospital. I knew a few patients in my room. They have different stories. One just had his operation of removing the tumour. He is recovering and becomes cheerful. He said he felt a big relief after the operation. Recovery is the biggest joy for sick people.
Another elderly has transplanted his liver for 4 years. Recently, he is suffering from various illnesses. The doctor is checking on him to find out the cause of illnesses. It is painful to go through all the tests, especially for gastroscope.
The third one is a secondary school student who is suffering from a rare illness. Some of the cells in his bone marrow decayed but the decayed cells attack his liver and the liver does not function anymore. He needs to go through two main operations to change his marrow and transplant liver. It is a big burden on him and he becomes depressed. They are suffering which is painful and scary for them. We talked about each other’s illness and, naturally, we talked about life. May Jesus be their strength and happiness. I blessed each of them before I left. I hope they would hold on and recover soon.

3. Secret of overcoming the suffering
3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
(James 1:3-4)
How can we overcome test and suffering? Paul says, there is faith, hope and love and this is very treasuring in our belief. We need to have hope in order to overcome the suffering. When we have hope and faith, we can see light out of our desperation.
I am very sick and the doctors said there is not much they can do. A few brothers and sisters told me to be ready but I never feel desperate. For me, it is excellent to meet our Father God and it is easy to arrange things after I leave. However, I am in a battle at the moment and it is not good to think what I should do if the result is negative. I hope you would pray for me according to what I receive from God, ‘God will heal me.’ We have to pray on the same goal. God can do things that man cannot. I am facing the battle according to God’s will. We are not relying on medicine and technology but the Spirit of God. An unstable heart is the biggest loophole in a battle. If we are taking it as a spiritual war, we have to fight to the last minute wholeheartedly. This is the secret of overcoming illness and suffering.

To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
(Jude 1:25)

Act according to His good purpose

02nd December, 2006 (Saturday)

For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
(Philippians 2:13)

Thank you for your encouragement to Pastor Li. Even a tough person comes across weakness when suffering from illness. We are grateful that God send us your prayer support. Though it is tough, we will move on because you are walking with us!

Pastor Li returned home from the hospital last night. More than 1,000cc ascites was extracted. It is not a large volume comparing to other patients (some are having 5,000 to 6,000cc to be extracted) but it had taken more than 8 hours already. Some pills for ascites were given to Pastor Li and the doctor said the pills do not have any side effect as they are carbohydrate. According to the dietitian, since Pastor Li does not have enough nutrient, his liver will decompose the nutrient stored up in the body. Hence, the liver function is deteriorating. Thank God, Pastor Li’s appetite is getting better today. Home care service has been arranged that the nurse will visit our home from time to time to follow up with Pastor Li’s situation. (Our next appointment in the hospital is 3 weeks later.) We want to express our gratitude to the doctors in Queen Mary Hospital for their thoughtful arrangement. We also thank God for His immediate support!

Prayer request :
1. We pray that Almighty God will heal and save Pastor Li.
2. We pray that Pastor Li will have good appetite so as to absorb enough nutrients from food.
3. We pray that Pastor Li will have strong faith in God’s healing upon him.

Goodness and love for life

30th November, 2006 (Thursday)

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me… 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.(Psalm 23:4-6)

Today, Pastor Li went to the hospital to extract ascites. He is vomiting a lot and has not eaten much in the recent week. The doctor said Pastor Li does not have enough protein and gave him an injection. Also, his potassium level is a bit high while the sodium level is a bit low. He can take more salty food. Pastor Li’s SGOT is still high, so he feels very tired and weak. His liver is not functioning well too. We have to pray cordially and ask God to protect him and heal his liver. He has stopped taking Chinese medicine since this Sunday so as to lessen the burden of liver. Regarding the ascites, the doctor told Pastor Li not to drink too much water, around 1.2 litre per day.
We proclaim :
18 "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.19 "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.
(Matthew 18:18-19)
Prayer request :
1. We pray God to cease the attack on Pastor Li from Satan, heal his liver infection, lower the level of SGOT and protect his liver.
2. We pray the Holy Spirit would guide Pastor Li’s diet, so that both the food and medication are beneficial to his health.
3. We pray Jesus will give Pastor Li a firm faith, so that he can get hold of God’s promise of healing and focus on God.

** During this period, Pastor Li needs a lot of rest and focus on God. We appreciate brothers and sisters for not visiting him or calling. Pastor Li would get in touch with you when necessary. Also, we are thankful for your prayers.
